Forrest Breyfogle III is an ASQ Fellow who has an MSME degree from the University of Texas in Austin.  He is CEO of Smarter Solutions Inc. (www.SmarterSolutions.com).  He has authored or co-authored over a dozen books.  His five-book set, Integrated Enterprise Excellence provides an enhanced operational excellence system for the utilization and integration of scorecards, strategic planning, and process improvement so that the enterprise as a whole benefits.

Mr. Breyfogle was named Quality Professional of the Year for 2011 by Quality Magazine and in 2012 was awarded alumni of the year by Missouri University of Science and Technology. He also received the prestigious Crosby Medal from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) in 2004 for an earlier book, Implementing Six Sigma and was presented the Leadership Award at the 2013 Lean & Six Sigma World Conference.

Volunteers Needed – Austin Energy Regional Science Festival – 02/21-24/18

Judges/Volunteers needed for the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival, February 21-24 2018

 

Topic:

The  Science Festival is a competition for students from 23 school districts and 12 counties who are advancing from their local schools. Junior (middle school) Division and Senior (high school) Division students submit their projects in one of 17 scientific categories, covering both Life and Physical Sciences as well as Math and Engineering.

The  top three winners in each category from both divisions advance to the state fair in San Antonio. Elementary students are judged on Saturday, Feb 24, 2018 and are graded but do not advance/

The overall top six projects in the Senior Division, called “Best of Fair”, advance directly to the international competition.

 

How to Help:

  • We need subject matter experts to evaluate the projects. About 7-8 projects are assigned to each group of 3 judges Who interview the students and  discuss the project to determine the ranking.
  • Judging  is a 2-4 hour commitment, plus orientation.  We offer orientation sessions in the weeks prior to the fair. Judging  will take place on Thursday, Feb 22, 2018 at the Palmer Event Center. Links to the abstracts will be made available the week-end prior to the fair.
  • We also need general volunteers from Wednesday, Feb 21 to Saturday, Feb 24 to help with registration, project set-up, and assisting with the awards ceremonies. You can register as either a judge or a volunteer by going to http://www.sciencefest.org/volunteers

ASQ volunteers may submit a request for RU’s  from their  section recertification chair based on 0.1 RU per hour of time spent in service as a volunteer.

Online Problem Solving Workshop Opportunity

The ASQ Blue Ridge Section 1108, is excited to offer a first-ever, online problem solving workshop in two half-day sessions on Thursday, September 21, 2017 and Thursday, September 28, 2017.
