If you are part of a product development process, you are part of a reliability program.   Product reliability, like quality, is designed into a product.   Reliability programs and plan should be more than a list of environmental and life tests. Your ability to improve your product reliability results  starts with understanding the status of your reliability program.   Let’s talk about a reliability maturity matrix and two ways you can quickly assess your organization’s reliability program. Armed with a clear view of your program, you can begin to improve the program.   Organizations with proactive, mature reliability programs enjoy lower warranty, higher customer satisfaction and lower cost of failure.   Plenty of time for discussion, Q&A, in this highly interactive discussion concerning the assessment of your reliability program.


Fred Schenkelberg is an international authority on reliability engineering. He is the reliability expert at FMS Reliability, a reliability engineering and management consulting firm he founded in 2004. Fred left Hewlett Packard (HP)’s Reliability Team where he helped create a culture of reliability across the corporation to assist other organizations. His passion is working with teams to improve product reliability, customer satisfaction, and efficiencies in product development; and to reduce product risk and warranty costs. Fred has a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Science in Statistics from Stanford University.
